Heavy turnout at New Delhi Railway Station raises crowd management concerns echo that from last week stampede incident The sudden rush at Maha Kumbh Mela preparations being made which are said to be causing more manatees to visit passenger carrying points across India Commuters at the New Delhi station have said that huge crowds on the arrival and departure platforms make it expensive for them to reach these counters as well go through security checks.

The authorities have seen the increased footfalls and have taken crowd control (sic) to regulate the Behaviour of public. This requires more train police, stronger security and measures for crowd control to bring the passengers as swift as possible. Under these circumstances the station’s minimalist infrastructure is near enough exploding under load. The incident followed a stampede that occurred just days ago, where numerous people died when they were crushed to death under foot on a packed platform and only adds to the panic already experienced by passengers as well railway staff.

It acted as a final warning of the havoc rush hour uncontrolled crowds can wreak. Railway board says teaming up to prevent such incidents in future. They also stated more passengers will have to cooperate and all passengers are requested to obey the instructions of railway staff. Regular announcements are broadcasted to help passengers and to inform them on the movements of trains. This will be catered to by the preparations for Maha Kumbh Mela that are expected to lead to an increase in passenger traffic at major railway stations, including New Delhi.

That demands effective crowd control in the crowded places, for everybody’s safety and security. The railways are doing their best but travellers should buy tickets in advance, reach early and avoid bustling places as passengers. The New Delhi Railway Station is under “heavy rush” from the ongoing comments at Maha Kumbh Mela, that declares necessity of crowd monitoring and inconvenience free travel for each one during the upcoming juggernaut fete. The status of Maha Kumbh Mela is being watchfully pursued. Railway authorities too said that they would deploy more staff to offer assistance for any passenger query and guide.

At various places inside the station premises there were special help desk to resolve passenger queries and avail real time information on train schedules, platform changes etc.Additionally other than providing basic facilities like cold water and wash room to passengers mass, passenger comfort is being looked into from a perspective. In addition, regular cleaning and maintenance are also being undertaken to tackle with the increased footfall in terms of hygiene standards. However, they have raised concerns with the little bit of room available at platforms and the sheer number of people make it hard for some elderly and differently abled.

The issues have led to calls for more interventionist measures such as better even distribution of passengers via different entry-exit points, and an integrated communication system to control the crowd flow. New Delhi Railway Station in particular is presently a pressure cooker as far as the capacity to manage massive passenger movements is concerned, such as you might expect with a grand event like Maha Kumbh Mela coming down the pike.
