At Hyderabad House on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco, the president of Angola.
President Lourenco and PM Modi also met bilaterally at Hyderabad House with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
A spokesman for the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, shared a post on X, “Encouraging India-Angola’s unique relationship.” President Mr. Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco of Angola was cordially welcomed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House before their bilateral discussions.
EAM Jaishankar had previously met with the president of Angola while on a state visit to India. He added that it is anticipated that the meeting between PM Modi and the president of Angola will improve ties between India and Africa as well as collaboration between India and Angola.

Jaishankar posted on X, “It is an honor to receive President Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco of Angola in India on his State Visit. I value his generous words about India and his guidance on how to take our cooperation forward. He is confident that his meeting with Prime Minister @narendramodi later today would create new avenues for the growth of India-Angola and India-African relations.”.
Earlier in the day, Lourenco was welcomed formally in Rashtrapati Bhavan’s forecourt. EAM Jaishankar, PM Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and others also attended.
Jaiswal wrote, “A special welcome for a Global South partner,” on X. On his arrival at Rashtrapati Bhavan’s forecourt, Angolan President Mr. Joao Manuel Goncalves Lourenco was welcomed with a Guard of Honor and a 21-gun salute. Welcomes warmly by PM @narendramodi and President Droupadi Murmu @rashtrapatibhvn. Lourenco also paid respects to Mahatma Gandhi by placing a wreath at his monument at Rajghat. At the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, the Angolan president placed a wreath and later signed the visitors’ book.
