After Prime Minister Mark Carney’s major cabinet alteration, Canada’s new foreign minister Anita Anand has become the center of attention. This change was made just after Carney’s party secured the national elections and replaced Justin Trudeau, who had resigned earlier this year.
Melanie Joly, now Minister of Industry, is replaced by Anand, 58. She took office in a serious ceremony, administering her oath according to a personal tradition.

Anand made the following X (formerly Twitter) post after appointment:
“It’s an honor to be named Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. To build a safer and fairer world and to serve Canadians, I look forward to working with Prime Minister Mark Carney and our team.”.
Since being elected to serve as a Member of Parliament for Oakville in the 2019 election, Anand has held various important roles in the government. They include the Treasury Board President, the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, and the Minister of National Defense.
- She has been rewarded for her level-headed leadership and commitment to public service.
- She was also one of the front-runners at one time to be Prime Minister instead of Trudeau.
- She returned to the foreground after initially stepping aside in January, declaring that “Canada is facing a crucial moment in our nation’s history.”
