The Indian Army has issued a ₹137 crore emergency procurement order to ideaForge Technology, an Indian maker of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Hybrid Mini UAV systems that are now being used for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations are being ordered.

These UAVs are platforms with fixed wings that can take off and land vertically (VTOL). They were chosen by the Army following a thorough assessment process that prioritized supply chain security, performance, and indigenous content. Crucial parts of the UAVs had to be supplied from nations that shared India’s land boundaries in order to pass the selection procedure.

After the field tests, two separate technical committees were established to confirm the components of the UAVs. To verify the origin and security of every sub-system, these teams went to manufacturing facilities and performed inspections. By utilizing non-border nation sources and providing a system that is primarily indigenous, ideaForge satisfied the requirements.

The directive follows the Directorate General of Quality Assurance’s (DGQA) previous approval of the hybrid Mini UAV as “Fit for Indian Military Use.” In order to verify the platform’s operational preparedness, it was also utilized in Operation Sindoor, supporting ISR tasks during active deployments.

The procurement is expected to be finished in a year in order to satisfy pressing operating requirements. The choice demonstrates the Army’s emphasis on implementing dependable, domestically produced aerial systems.

To help collect situational data, the company’s Mini UAVs will be deployed in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations. The order is a component of larger initiatives to expand the use of defense equipment made in the United States in accordance with current procurement criteria and decrease dependency on foreign technology.

“The military-use certification for Mini UAVs and this emergency procurement for CI/CT operations, which will help safeguard national security, reaffirm our commitment to building world-class, reliable UAVs in India,” stated Ankit Mehta, CEO of ideaForge Technology Limited.
