According to a source, Apple intends to release its first smart glasses by the end of 2026. According to the article, Apple engineers are working harder on the project, which is anticipated to compete with future gadgets built on Google’s Android XR platform and Meta’s Ray-Ban smart spectacles.
Although the company seems to have postponed more ambitious ambitions, such as a version of the Apple Watch with an integrated camera, the smart glasses are apparently part of Apple’s larger push toward AI-enhanced products.

The story claims that although Apple initially referred to the smart glasses internally as N50, the project currently uses the more general code name N401, which may include other similar goods.
It is anticipated that the gadget will have cameras, microphones, and integrated speakers, allowing it to analyze its environment and process spoken commands using Siri. Providing turn-by-turn navigation, playing music, making phone calls, and even real-time language translation are examples of core use cases.

With this feature, Apple’s product would directly compete with Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. Apple’s long-term objective, according to Bloomberg, is to provide a complete augmented reality (AR) experience using smart glasses with lens-based displays that can superimpose digital content on the physical world. This strategy is comparable to the Android XR-powered eyewear that Google showed off at its I/O 2025 keynote.
Additionally, according to the article, Apple has already started working on semiconductors specifically for the glasses and plans to begin mass production as early as next year, with a late 2026 launch date in mind.
