India,Hubballi, Karnataka: death of five-year-old girl by police firing on accused migrant labourer from Bihar in a tragic incident
It has led to public anger and demand for justice in Hubballi amid Karnataka.
It is being reported that Sunday morning, the accused a 35 year old from Patna Bihar (Presently underlenege) Ritesh Kumar allegedly enticed a young gossiper with chocolates. Residents of a house where her mother was working alleged that the child was playing outside the residence. The mother went looking for her daughter and a search ensued when she realised that the little girl had gone missing.
The body of the girl was later discovered in Adhyapaka Nagar, Hubballi, a more secluded area, Tragically. Karnataka Police, suspecting the child was first raped and then murdered is awaiting postmortem reports to verify these injuries.
This led to a wave of anger among residents of the locality and they organised public protests demanding the immediate arrest and punishment of the perpetrator. Public outrage was further outraged by another incident such as the capture of Ritesh Kumar in CCTV footage had him walking off with the child.
Police had to put the situation on hold when they caught Ritesh Kumar. Allegedly tried to escape the process of identifying him and gathering more information, meanwhile at his place of residence wherein he attacked police officers.
According to Hubballi-Dharwad City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar, the accused attacked policeman and try to flee.
Realizing this, the police shot of the suspect. It culminated in the suspect’s death. Thus, it is termed the encounter death of “rape accused killed”.
The accused shot as he attempted to attack the police while trying to flee, said N. Shashi Kumar (Commissioner), Ritesh Kumar transferred to Karnataka Medical College and Research Institute-Hubballi and “brought dead” were the circumstances.
The Indian Express reports this incident have raised fears over children safety and it also brings out the combustible nature even in communities packed with migrant worker.
According to police, they continue to probe the incident.
