AVPL International, a drone manufacturing and training company, announced on Friday that it would invest $1 million, or roughly Rs 8.5 crore, in defense drone research and development.

The corporation invested $12 million in drone manufacturing and training in April 2025.
An announcement from the firm states that the new investment intends to expedite the domestic development of cutting-edge unmanned aerial systems (UAS) specifically designed for India’s homeland security, defense, and dual-purpose applications.
“The investment aims to fill important gaps in India’s drone ecosystem, including lowering reliance on foreign parts, building intelligent drones with sophisticated swarm autonomy, and establishing domestic counter-UAS capabilities to safeguard vital assets.
“AVPL’s efforts also include high-altitude platforms capable of sustained flight in extreme terrains, with specific attention to the Himalayan region,” added the statement.
Additionally, AVPL’s production infrastructure in its plants in Bihar and Hisar will be improved thanks to the investment.
In order to create a robust national pool of UAV professionals, the Gurgaon-based company stated that special attention will be paid to upskilling former service members and Agniveers by offering them drone training and leveraging their battle experience and logistical abilities.
Drone technology, precision farming, geospatial intelligence, defense, and other drone-based solutions like mapping, scanning, and surveillance are all areas of business for AVPL.
Additionally, In a significant accomplishment, IG Drones was given the patent for the nation’s first in-house defense drone simulator. The simulator was revealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2022 Defence Expo.
This next-generation simulator, which was conceptualized, conceived, produced, and manufactured domestically, offers the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces realistic, high-fidelity training.

In an area traditionally controlled by foreign defense contractors, IG Drones is the first Indian business to get intellectual property rights for a drone simulator platform with this patent.
