New Delhi, May 2025:The organized crime gang of house burglaries that plagued several city homes in succession has been taken into custody by Delhi Police.
A gang that used fake and photo-synthetic Aadhaar cards to masquerade as domestic help in a select residence to be employed and subsequently commit a crime. They could then conduct thorough home surveys, assess valuable belongings, and walk away without a trace.

The case was registered after a felony complaint by a resident of Kohat Enclave in North Delhi claiming that a large amount of jewelry was stolen after hiring a helper by the name of “Sonu. He was impossible to reach since the incident, and all his given contact numbers were bugged.
Yet, Authorities screened more than 100 CCTV feeds during their investigation, but nothing showed a smoking gun escape route. Technical analysis of call data records and IPDR data led to a breakthrough that pinpointed the presence of the same suspect with a stolen keypad phone that had recently come up missing. However, when a deeper investigation was done, it was found that the domestic help, “Sonu,” had procured the employment with the help of a fake Aadhaar card. When another raiding team went to Patna, however, it turned out that the number was “real,” but the photograph was digitally altered.

Authorities came to arrest the mastermind, Suraj, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after a chase that saw them hit live crops in agricultural fields. The others arrested were accomplices Karan, who helped commit the getaways, and his cousin Saurav, who made Aadhaar cards using online tools, and Pramod Kumar Soni/Pawan Sahoo, the ones who bought the stolen jewellery. Soni had previous convictions related to temple robbery in Ayodhya, as well as other cases.
Per DC police, as per Bhisham Singh, the gang picked homes with low security after getting in through the fake IDs. They even made use of stolen phones and SIMs that were taken off after the crime, to avoid being tracked via mobile.
Police recovered a large consignment of stolen gold and diamonds (rings, pendants, earrings, bangles, and bracelets as well as two mobiles & melted gold) along with melted gold from them. Maria Suraj admitted to keeping a few of the stolen items for his girlfriend, but they too were recovered.
Subsequent investigation showed that the gang performed extensive pre-employment scouting for all potential targets. Also, Suraj confessed to his previous alleged robbery in an armed robbery case in 2024. The police are still taking steps to nab any remaining culprits and find more stolen goods. This case perfectly demonstrates what a bad problem it is when forged ID is used to commit crimes and the difficulty police have in cracking more complex cases.
