This fiscal year, IndiGo will launch direct flights to ten new foreign locations, including London and Athens, as part of a significant international expansion, according to airline CEO Pieter Elbers. In just one year, the carrier’s worldwide network will expand from 40 to 50 international locations thanks to this move.

In addition to four locations in Central Asia, IndiGo will soon be expanding internationally with new routes to Amsterdam (Netherlands), Manchester (UK), Copenhagen (Denmark), and Siem Reap (Cambodia).

During a press briefing, CEO Pieter Elbers stated, “Indian aviation offers enormous potential, as the country’s rapidly expanding infrastructure is keeping pace with its soaring demand.”

In July, IndiGo will start offering direct flights from Mumbai to Manchester and Amsterdam using leased Boeing 787-9 aircraft. Additionally, IndiGo will start long-haul service on the Manchester route.

Currently operating more than 2,300 flights per day with a fleet of more than 430 aircraft, IndiGo generates $10 billion in revenue annually and serves more than 90 domestic and 40 international destinations.

According to Elbers, 90% of Indians now reside within 90 minutes of an IndiGo-connected airport, highlighting the airline’s expanding domestic and global reach. As part of its aggressive expansion strategy, the airline plans to add more than 100 new routes in FY25, connecting 20 Indian cities and 40 international destinations. Elbers believes that “India—and IndiGo—are in a hurry.”

With more than a million passengers arriving every three days, IndiGo is proud of its diverse workforce, which includes the most female pilots in India and a robust LGBTQ+ community.

Elbers stated, “We work within the regulatory framework and will adjust accordingly,” in response to the regulatory difficulties pertaining to Turkey. IndiGo is keeping a careful eye on the development of bilateral agreements and aviation diplomacy.
