There are rapid changes happening in the job market in India. Whether it be the “growing” demand for green jobs, the disillusionment of the youth with promises of such jobs, or the introduction of AI, the job landscape in India is changing. Hence, today we look at what the future can hold for workers in India.
Blue Collar Workers

Blue collar workers in India are likely to be safe from AI in 2027 if YouTube channel Full Disclosure is to be believed. While other reports have shown that sectors like manufacturing will be hit the hardest by AI, other sectors like agriculture remain relatively human dependent as of now.
White collar workers
Reports have warned of a white collar recession, especially for the middle class workers in India, and Full Disclosure also supports this, by saying that while the highly skilled will survive, those with “replaceable” skills are likely to see their jobs get automated faster than others. As such soft skills and sector expertise are becoming essential to thrive in the coming future. Branding for yourself is a must now.
AI won’t be the only thing changing the job sector. More and more updates are coming in many sectors, such as ten minute deliveries becoming more common. Hence, we will see the need for convenience rise as well, and that means workers with higher productivity will be preferred, even though extreme temperatures are taking a toll on how effectively one can work.

Another important thing to note is that the Indian government is pushing for support for Indian women workers, traditional artisans, and local production, but how it impacts the market remains to be seen.
A popular industry among the youth, the creator economy which is also looking at AI. While many aspire to be creatives, the competition is getting tough, despite some platforms making it easier for fresh faces to start.
The value of a degree is also changing, which can be seen in the number of PhD scholars applying for entry positions, as many have started to feel that companies prefer demonstrable skills over marks and medals. Yet, most continue to feel secure in MBAs and other professional degrees, but now that has become dependent on the degree and the life you aspire to have, for sure, you might get a job but whether that’s a job that can sustain you remains a different matter. Some of the safest degrees are the ones where expertise and human touch are valued like becoming a top tier lawyer or doctor, and yet the competition for those remains stiff.
