Gujarat’s first off-grid green hydrogen pilot plant commissioned by Adani

An important milestone in India’s clean energy transition has been reached with the commissioning of the nation’s first off-grid 5 MW green hydrogen pilot plant in Kutch, Gujarat, by Adani New Industries Limited (ANIL). Announced on June 23, 2025, the facility runs solely on solar energy that has been combined with a battery energy storage system.

With its fully automated, closed-loop electrolyzer system, the plant can handle solar power unpredictability while preserving operational efficiency by reacting to real-time renewable energy inputs. In India, the off-grid design is a novel method of producing hydrogen in a decentralized, renewable manner.

The cutting-edge facility can run entirely off the grid thanks to its integration of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and 100% green solar electricity. In a statement, the business claimed, “This is a new paradigm in decentralized, renewable-powered hydrogen production.”

One of the cleanest fuels is hydrogen, the most prevalent element in the universe, which when burned just releases water vapor. The way it is produced has an impact on the environment.

As a proof of concept for its proposed Green Hydrogen Hub in Mundra, Gujarat, ANIL, a fully owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Ltd., is promoting this experiment. The company wants to help India achieve its objective of becoming a global center for the generation of green hydrogen.

The program is in line with India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which aims to speed up the decarbonization of energy-intensive industries and lessen reliance on imports. It is anticipated that green hydrogen would be essential to the decarbonization of industries such heavy transportation, fertilizers, and refining.

India’s larger Atmanirbhar Bharat goal of energy self-sufficiency is supported by the Adani Group’s investment in green hydrogen technologies. The pilot plant shows technical viability for upcoming commercial-scale initiatives and sets a standard for industrial applications powered by renewable energy in challenging industries.
