The security forces who are currently engaged in combat activities with terrorists in Kathua district’s Jammu and Kashmir region have wounded four officers, which includes Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Dheeraj Katoch. The security forces remain vigilant in monitoring a new outbreak of conflict at Juthana, which restarted its fight in the early morning of Thursday.

Security personnel and terrorists resumed their gunfight four days after initiating a search operation. Medical authorities transported the injured policemen directly to their hospital, where doctors provided medical attention. Reports indicate the destruction of at least one terrorist member yet government authorities have not issued official statements about this development.

The security forces encountered the terrorist group at the Sanyal village located within Hiranagar Tehsil on Sunday. A period of silence passed before terrorists and security personnel re-engaged near the Sufain forest, which lies under the Rajbagh police station area.

    Search Operations and Heightened Security

The extended search operation between Sanyal and Ding Amb now involves the combined forces of the Indian Army together with the National Security Guard (NSG), Border Security Force (BSF), Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Surface surveillance tools made of drones and helicopters, along with sniffer dogs and bulletproof vehicles, assist security forces in monitoring the terrorists.

The situation worsened when a local resident disclosed witnessing two soldiers wearing military uniforms ask for water during Tuesday. The security situation led to authorities implementing intensive security procedures on the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway at the Samba-Kathua section together with its border roads.

    Recent Terrorist Activity Raises Alarms

Security forces discovered grenades in combination with ammunition and tracksuits matching those of dead Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists during their latest search operations in Doda during last year. The officials believe the attackers sneaked through a hidden border route or underground tunnel from the neighboring land.

The encounter follows a series of tragic incidents in Kathua, including the recent brutal killing of three civilians who went missing on March 5. Their bodies were discovered three days later in a remote wooded area, raising serious concerns about terrorist activities in the region.

    Authorities Call for Public Vigilance

In response to the escalating threats, security agencies have detained three suspects for questioning. Local leaders have urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious movements.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan recently reviewed security measures for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and other crucial projects, underlining the government’s commitment to maintaining stability in the region.

As the gunfight continues, security forces remain determined to eliminate the threat and restore peace in Kathua.
