The BJP government plans to raise Delhi electricity prices due to the Rs 27000 crore debt in the power sector that the AAP administration failed to resolve. The power distribution companies face possible raises in electricity tariffs to recuperate regulatory assets accumulated during the term of the Delhi AAP government, according to Ashish Sood, the Delhi Power Minister.
Why are electricity prices rising?
Sood declared at Delhi Assembly meetings that district power sectors have power to boost electricity rates because they face fiscal carryovers. According to Sood, the Delhi High Court issued instructions to DERC for a tariff order while the AAP government somehow failed to protect the public interest.
Sood condemned the former government by asserting that it abandoned its financial duties to Discoms through its Rs 27,000 crore debt. Electrical price increases form a legal means for the authorities to recover this amount.
Some political powers could potentially use higher rates for their personal gain yet our government maintains active contact with the DERC for constant observation of price fluctuations.
AAP Leader Criticized the BJP Government for Not Honoring Their Election Promises
The AAP leader Atishi criticized the BJP for breaking its election promises to Delhi residents. The leader criticized the BJP government most strongly for its failure to execute the promised Rs 2,500 aid program for women.
When interviewed by the media, she stated that BJP representatives told all women in Delhi that a Rs 2,500 payment would arrive by March 8. The implementation of the promised registration process has not been initiated at all. Such behavior represents both falsehood and dishonesty in the eyes of the people.

Budget Session Highlights
The budget session started through ceremonial ‘kheer’ preparation by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta as she began financial discussions. The legislative session has been planned for March 24-28 but may continue longer since the BJP gained power in 27 years and seeks to establish its main laws.
Discussions during the budget session will focus mainly on Delhi’s water crisis as well as sewerage management alongside CAG reports about the scrapped excise policy and the condition of the state health services. The oversight of Delhi’s financial planning will fall under the responsibility of three new committees dedicated to public accounts and government undertakings and estimates.
What Lies Ahead?
With electricity prices poised to rise, the political blame game continues. While the BJP attributes the crisis to AAP’s financial mismanagement, the opposition criticizes the current administration for unmet promises.
For Delhi’s residents, the real concern remains—how much more will they have to pay for electricity?
