New Delhi, April 10, 2025 — The official Passport Seva portal, operated by the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is currently facing a technical issue, leaving thousands of applicants unable to access essential passport services online.

Users attempting to log in or complete their applications on passportindia.gov.in have been met with an error message stating:
“The Online portal is currently facing some technical problem. Please try after some time.”

    Services Disrupted

The glitch has impacted several key services, including:

    • Online passport application submissions
    • Appointment scheduling at Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs)
    • Status tracking for ongoing applications
    • Access to downloadable forms and affidavits
    • Grievance redressal and feedback system

    MEA Acknowledges the Issue

Officials from the MEA’s Passport Seva Programme (PSP) Division have acknowledged the disruption and assured citizens that efforts are underway to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. While no official timeline has been shared, a spokesperson stated:

“We are aware of the technical difficulties on the Passport Seva portal and regret the inconvenience caused. Our technical teams are working to restore services at the earliest.”

    Advice for Applicants

Applicants with upcoming appointments or urgent requirements, especially under the Tatkaal scheme, are advised to:

    • Regularly check the portal for updates
    • Use the mPassport Seva mobile app for basic services and notifications
    • Visit their nearest PSK or Regional Passport Office (RPO) for time-sensitive issues

Additionally, those scheduled for appointments at the PSK Aman Plaza in Jalandhar should note the recent change in location and refer to the RPO Jalandhar page for updated address details.

    Public Response

The outage has led to frustration among users, especially students and working professionals applying for travel and visa documentation. Many took to social media to voice their concerns, requesting quicker resolution and better digital infrastructure.

Passport Seva Portal Outage Impacts on Tourism and Trade

The technical issues with India’s Passport Seva Portal have disrupted passport-related services nationwide, causing delays in travel plans and affecting key sectors like tourism and international trade.

    • Tourism: Travel agents report cancellations and trip delays, especially during the peak holiday season. Many travelers are unable to get their passports or renewals in time.
    • Trade: Business travelers and exporters are missing important overseas events and meetings, resulting in financial and reputational losses.
    • Industry Concerns: The outage has sparked calls for stronger, more reliable digital infrastructure in government services.
    • MEA Response: The Ministry of External Affairs is working to resolve the issue and has urged users to try again later or use the mPassport Seva app for limited functions.

Businesses and travelers await a swift resolution as the disruption continues to impact personal plans and the broader economy.

    Stay Tuned for Updates

Citizens are encouraged to stay connected through official MEA channels and the mPassport Seva app for real-time updates. The MEA is expected to issue an official statement once services are fully restored.
