Shingao, Goa on early morning of Saturday- May 3rd,2025 A stampede that was horror at the annual Jatra festival in Shri Lairai Devi temple, Shirgao North Goa claimed at least six lives and around 30 people were injured in it.
In the early hours of Saturday, Friday, May 3, 2025, inflammation during the Jatra festival at the pond in Shirgao village on North Goa Parlour shr Comb class has resulted in at minimum six victims and around people sufferers.
Festival Shorn of Life through Tragedy
It is alleged that a stampede occurred somewhere in the 3 AM vicinity to a narrow and cramped area near temple while thousands of devotees gathered for its annual pilgrimage.

At Festival, Tragedy Strikes
The victims are believed to be two persons killed in an incident when hundreds and thousands of devotees rushed the ground for darshan at Chitra Hanuman temple during the ongoing annual festival. The authorities said, though the exact reason is under investigation, initial reports indicated that more than sheer overcrowding in place with stampeding devotees could well have been a massive trip or fall leading to a panic-stricken rush. One report pointed toward an electric shock, but this was never confirmed with its large affiliations of devotees from Goa, neighboring Maharashtra, and Karnataka to the capital in Delhi.
Casualties and Response
Police said six died in the stampede. Around 30 others were injured, and some of those were very critical and treated at Goa Medical College and a few others in North Goa as well. The injured were quickly attended to by emergency services including ambulances at the scene.
Investigation Underway
Goa CM Pramod Sawant was extremely heartbroken over the case, visited injured persons in the hospital, and all those who got injured or affected assured full support. Prime Minister Narendra Modi too conveyed sadness and said that all possible help would be on hand to the state. A thorough probe was ordered to get to the bottom of this stampede and prevent future incidents like this. There is a heavy security presence being reported for the fest, yet the fact proves that controlling a crowd at a religious get-together is a huge challenge — even with all the guns.
