Because of the Ambani family’s great reputation and standing, practically every Indian knows about them. It is not necessary to mention that in order to fulfill all of these aspirations, the Ambani family needed to overcome the most challenging moments and adversities of their lifetime. We will thus reveal the history of the Ambanis’ journey and achievements in this blog, beginning with the late Mr. Dhirubhai Ambani.

About Dhirubhai Ambani
For those who may not know, Dhirajlal Harichand Ambani, commonly referred to as Dhirubhai Ambani, established Reliance Commercial Corporation. Though he originated from a fairly well-off family, the business that he established became one of India’s most famous and successful business ventures.
He was born on 28 December 1932 in the Gujarati village of Chorwad, which is a small one. Ambani started the textile company Reliance Commercial Corporation in 1966 when he was beginning his thirties. Seven years later, the company shifted its name to Reliance Industries. This company would later foray into the petroleum and finance sectors.
Dhirubhai Ambani’s father was a school teacher in their village. Dhirubhai didn’t start studying until he finished grade 10, after which he started working, although his father was a very brilliant student.
It is widely said that he was paid a paltry INR 300 as his initial salary. He migrated to the Republic of Yemen at the age of seventeen to work with his brother Ramniklal. Dhirubhai began working at a gas station while he was in Yemen. He rose up, however, and soon became the file manager. Dhirubhai later shifted to India to venture into business.
After his return to India in 1958, Dhirubhai Ambani and his cousin Champaklal formed the textile firm “Majin.” This firm handled the importing of polyester and exporting of goods to Yemen, such as spices and rayon fabrics. His initial office was a mere 33 square meters and was in Masjid Bunder. Because of their differing ideas about how the business must be run, Dhirubhai and his cousin’s partnership concluded in 1965.

Business Life
Ambani was a shrewd businessman who believed in the importance of marketing and never shied away from taking risks. He knew that to earn money, one needed stocks. Learning this, he decided to establish Reliance Commercial Corporation, which today is called Reliance Industries.
This company first focused on the sale of spices but later diversified into a wide range of products. His business strategy involved offering better quality products at a lower level of revenue than his competitors. It is no wonder then that his company began to expand and flourish.
Dhirubhai redirected his attention to man-made fabrics once he realized that his company had its limit when it came to commodities. He began focusing on man-made fabrics. In 1966, he commissioned the first Reliance textile mill with an intention of backward integration. Eventually, the company grew to be a leading force in the petrochemical sector and diversified its product line to include plastics and power generation.
When Ambani’s enterprise was spurned by nationalized banks for finance, he floated his company in 1977. Due to the fact that he could manage and bypass the government’s rules and bureaucracy, the investors had faith in the company despite allegations of corruption and manipulation. This is mainly thanks to the company’s good dividend payments to the investors as well as the common vision that Dhirubhai was committed to.
As many individuals attended the annual general meetings of Ambani’s firm, which he is said to have made popular, they were held on a routine basis in stadiums or broadcast live on TV. During the mid-1980s, Ambani chose to leave the business to his sons Anil and Mukesh but continued to operate it until his passing in 2002.
