Shopian, J&K Shopian (Jammu and Kashmir)—In a big success against Terror activities, security forces on Monday nabbed two associates of terrorists in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The joint operation led to their capture, and the USP of the action was that they had recovered a large number of arms and ammunition, including pistols & grenades, which could have been a part of certain subversive activities afoot in the region.
Fresh arrests were made in a joint naka (checkpoint/operation) by the Indian Army 34th Rashtriya Rifles, Shopian Police SOG, and 178th Battalion CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force). The following information led the joint team to arrest two persons in Shopian at DK Pora. In some of the reports, the arrested persons have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Sheikh and Anwar Khan.
While conducting searches on the arrested terrorist associate, security forces found a huge quantity of weapons and forensic evidence. Seized armaments include 2 pistols, 4 hand grenades, and 43 live rounds of ammunition. They were also in possession of other incriminating materials. Police said the quick seizure and retrieval of these weapons indicate that those individuals intended to commit disruptive activities.

Successful operational witness to the increased scrutiny and concerted effort of security agencies in the entire Jammu and Kashmir. They are the latest in a series of intense and quality operations that are being carried out by the Army, Police, and other security forces in our UT against terrorists, overground workers ( OG’s ) and sympathizers across the district. This action at Shopian is a successful encounter followed closely by the successful comb operations in the district and adjoining Pulwama, wherein several terrorists have been neutralized, including the key commando of Lashkar-e-Taiba. An FIR has been registered in respect of arrests, and the probe is on to find out the nexus and their role in any larger conspiracy. The ongoing works of security forces are to root out the terror network and ensure peace and stability, especially in whatever recent security developments that have transpired.
