    United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has urged India and Pakistan to exercise “maximum restraint” after a recent terror attack in Pahalgam and the consequent developments. The call by the United Nations is reflective of deep alarm in the international community that the region in South Asia, vulnerable enough already may soon face an act of destabilizing force.

    United Nations entreaty for restraint

    The United Nations Secretary-General issued an appeal after fears mounted to the worsening state of ties between two nuclear-armed neighbors. A statement from his office said: The UN Security Council has made it clear that the civilians killed a result of the Pahalgam attack. The Secretary-General is watching the developments closely and he urges governments of both sides to use maximum restraint in their utterance, attitude. The UN stresses that it is only restraint which is essential in order not to embark on the dangerous path of reciprocal retaliation and counter-retaliation.

    Appeal for resolution through peaceful means and dialogue

    The United Nations says that all disputes between India and Pakistan must be settled in peace by real partnership. This posture highlights the need for dialogue and talks on the intricate and entrenched troubles not only between India/Pakistan but many emerging intra-state conflicts. UN wants India-Pakistan talks to be restarted — re-starting talks is the only way for both difference to straight talk now.

    Escalation of Tensions, International Concerns and Backstory

    In the wake of Pahalgam attack, in a number of actions and reactions both India Pakistan UN has warned now. This included the firing of war rockets and artillery along the Line of Control (LoC), aggressive gestures by India and even Foreign Office expulsions. The UN, in intervening here underscores the global alarm about the next flashpoint in this troubled part of the earth. The organization is trying to temper the violence to diffuse situation and keep stability, repeating to both of these nations why peaceful means must be adhered for settling disputes and in maintaining regional status quo. The UN also recognize the role of other international mediators in mediating and providing a platform for dialogue between India and Pakistan.
