I had got a top level change in Zomato leadership- Rakesh Ranjan has resigned from his role on the food delivery at Zomato. Group CEO — founder Deepinder Goyal Zomato, the food delivery will now be run by him directly till someone lands in for Ranjan. It comes as Zomato parent Eternal undergoes a restructuring and customer reports of a wobbly food delivery industry in India.
Rakesh Ranjan Will Resign As :
Sources told us that Rakesh Ranjan’s resignation is part of a larger and more business simplification-internal re-arrangement intended for Zomato. CEO food delivery, to be precise —Ranjan will remain with the company but it has yet to be announced what exactly his new role is, In May 2023. We have had two very high profile exits in Zomato food delivery saga so far this week: First came Rinshul Chandra the COO.

Deepinder Goyal to Run Kitchen, Media Business:
This move follows a change to Goyal taking charge of the zomato guns, i.e. food delivery, Blinkit (Quick commerce) and Hyper-pure [ rest-of-B2B to argue about…]. We are moving towards a more top-down, founder-led model to focus, move faster and make better decisions than ever through the organisation. When asked about Goyal ′s vision ‘just one zomato, he says that it rather means technology, operations and the customer experience should work seamlessly together.
Implications for Food Delivery market share:
Leadership change comes at the time increased competition in the food delivery market share. Zomato is king (for now), but players like Swiggy have been ramping up quick commerce efforts and possibly threatening market position in its crown Zomatos. As of the December-October quarter, recent data suggests that Swiggy retained a 43% market share in the food delivery segment with the competitor (or competitors) at 42% — which was viewed as notable in light of Zomato writing to its shareholders about territory ceding.
